FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lloydminster, SK – Rosemarie Falk, Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster issued the following statement on the scheduled increase to the federal carbon tax:
“The middle of the COVID-19 pandemic is not the time for higher taxes. Canadians are facing so much uncertainty and financial hardship. The increase to the federal carbon tax scheduled for April 1 dives deeper into the pockets of Canadians at a time when they can afford it the least.”
“Constituents of Battlefords-Lloydminster know that Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax does nothing for the environment. What it does do is make everyday essentials like gas, groceries and home heating more expensive. It’s a tax that unfairly punishes rural communities.”
“Our farmers have faced hardship after hardship this past year and the carbon tax is already an enormous hit to their bottom line. An increased carbon tax further threatens the viability of their farm businesses and jeopardizes Canada’s continued food security.”
“Justin Trudeau’s continued assertion that his carbon tax puts more money into the pockets of Canadians doesn’t hold water in the best of times. Our Official Opposition’s Saskatchewan caucus has sent a letter to Finance Minister Bill Morneau calling on him to cancel the scheduled carbon tax hike and fully exempt farm fuels. This is the minimum they could do. Canadians would be best served by abandoning the failed carbon tax completely.”
