Take Action Today

Adoptive and intended parents deserve equal access to parental leave. Here are some simple steps that you can take to support C-318.

Write your Member of Parliament

Email your Member of Parliament. Ask them to support C-318 and let them know that equality in parental leave options is important to you.

You can find their contact info here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en

You can find out how your Member of Parliament voted on the bill at the second reading stage here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/Members/en/votes/44/1/409

Write to the Hon. Randy Boissonnault

This bill creates a new benefit and the Speaker of the House of Commons has ruled that its passage will require a royal recommendation - meaning that a member of cabinet will have to endorse it.

The Hon. Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, is the minister responsible for the Employment Insurance program.

Despite the Liberal Party promising to introduce a new 15-week attachment benefit for adoptive parents in 2019 and 2021, the majority of Liberal Members of Parliament including Minister Randy Boissonnault voted against this bill at the second reading stage.

Adoptive and intended parents deserve better than broken promises.

Ask him to support C-318, to provide a royal recommendation and to prioritize equality in EI parental leave options.
