Seniors who collected CERB through CRA are now discovering that, unlike those who collected CERB through the EI system, they can not option out the benefit in calculating their eligibility for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
The resulting loss of GIS was never communicated to eligible emergency benefit applicants and is now impacting those seniors who can afford it the least.
Seniors deserve better than to continue to be an afterthought to the Liberal government. That is why I wrote to the Minister of Seniors calling on her to rectify this situation for the sake of the financial stability and security of our most vulnerable.
