Third Reading of C-318

Bill C-318 is back in the House of Commons.

The bill is now at the third reading stage following the Human Resource committee’s study of Bill C-318.

While the bill has made important progress, it will not come to a vote at this stage if it does not receive a royal recommendation from the Liberal government. Unfortunately, there has been no indication that one is forthcoming.

After voting against this common sense legislation, the Liberals copied it in principle and included in an omnibus budget bill, C-59 – politicizing what should be a non partisan issue.

Unfortunately, they have not made that bill a priority and it has not been scheduled for debate since January.

The Liberal government must put partisanship aside and prioritize equal access to EI leave for adoptive and intended parents.
