Today, my private member's bill C-318 passed its first legislative hurdle.
With the support of Conservative, Bloc, NDP and a handful of Liberal Members of Parliament, C-318 passed the second reading stage and is now headed to committee. You can see how your Member of Parliament vote here.
Shamefully, despite campaigning on introducing a new 15-week adoptive leave in 2019 and 2021, the majority of Liberal MPs voted against this common sense bill.
While the bill has passed this stage, there is still lots of work to do to get it over the finish line.
Some key ways that you can take action to help support the passage of the bill:
- Write to your Member of Parliament and tell them that the passage of this bill is important to you
- Write to the Hon Randy Boissonnault, the Minister responsible for the EI program and ask him to support C-318 and to provide the Royal Recommendation needed
- Copy the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Minister of Families, Children and Social Development on your email
- Print this petition and return signed copies to my office postage free.
